Battery power stations giving silent, emission-free power indoors, at events and anywhere a generator is impractical. Pramac PWB models; for longer runtimes, see our portable generators.
Portable power stations are battery units with a built-in inverter. They run silently with no exhaust, so they can be used indoors, in occupied buildings and anywhere noise or fumes are a problem. They recharge from the mains, and some models also from solar panels or a vehicle.
Capacity and output are different
Capacity, in watt hours, is how much energy is stored and decides how long the unit runs. Output, in watts, is how much it can deliver at once and decides what it can power. Check both against the equipment you want to run.
Where they suit
Lighting, chargers, laptops, small tools, welfare equipment and security cameras are typical uses. Heavy motor loads with high starting currents are better served by a generator.
Common questions
How long will a power station run?
Roughly the capacity in watt hours divided by the load in watts, less some loss in the inverter. A higher load drains it faster.
Can they be used indoors?
Yes. There is no engine and no exhaust, so they are suitable indoors and in occupied spaces.
Will it run power tools?
Within its continuous and peak output ratings. Tools with large motors may exceed the starting surge a power station can supply.
