Permanently installed diesel and gas standby generators for homes and small businesses, with automatic mains failure operation available. Pramac GA and PMD models; for larger premises, see industrial generators.
A standby generator takes over when the mains supply fails, keeping critical equipment running until power is restored. With an automatic transfer switch, the set starts and takes the load without anyone on hand.
Decide what it has to run
Backing up essential circuits only, such as lighting, security, IT and refrigeration, needs a much smaller set than backing up a whole building. Separating essential loads is usually the most cost-effective approach.
Test it before you need it
A standby set that is never run may not start when it matters. Run it regularly under load, keep the fuel in good condition and follow the manufacturer maintenance schedule.
Common questions
Does a standby generator start automatically?
With an automatic transfer switch, yes. Without one, the changeover has to be made manually.
How often should it be tested?
Regularly and under load, following the manufacturer schedule. A set that only runs in an emergency is the one most likely to fail.
Can a standby generator be used for continuous power?
Not at its standby rating. For continuous running, work from the prime rating of the set.
Which brands do you stock for Standby Generators?
