Flammable Liquid Cupboards

Why flammables need their own cabinet

Flammable liquids give off vapour that can ignite well below room temperature. Keeping them in a dedicated steel cabinet limits the quantity in the work area, contains spills and slows fire spread. Storing them in a general cupboard is a common and serious mistake.

Quantities

Keep only what the work needs in the workroom and hold the rest in a separate store. The less that is present, the smaller the consequence of a fire.

Separation

Never store flammables with oxidising agents. Check safety data sheets and separate incompatible substances into different cabinets. Keep cabinets away from ignition sources and clear of escape routes.

Common questions
Why do flammable liquids need a special cabinet?

Their vapour can ignite at low temperatures. A dedicated cabinet limits the quantity present, contains spills and slows fire spread.

How much can I keep in the workroom?

Only what the work reasonably requires, with the remainder in a separate store. Check current guidance for the quantities that apply to your situation.

Can flammables share a cabinet with other chemicals?

Not with oxidising agents, and not with anything the safety data sheets identify as incompatible. Separate them into different cabinets.

Which brands do you stock for Flammable Liquid Cupboards?

We supply QMP. Ranges vary, so check the brand page for the full listing.
