First Aid Cupboards

Keeping supplies usable

First aid supplies need to be clean, dry and quickly accessible. A dedicated cupboard keeps dressings out of dust and damp and makes it obvious where to go in an emergency — which matters more than the cabinet specification itself.

Siting and signage

Position first aid provision where people work rather than in an office, and sign it clearly. On larger or spread-out sites more than one point is usually needed. White cabinets with a green cross are the recognised convention.

Contents and checks

What goes inside depends on your first aid needs assessment — the number of people, the hazards present and how far you are from help. Whatever the contents, someone needs to check and restock them regularly, because supplies get used and dressings expire.

Common questions
What should a first aid cupboard contain?

It depends on your first aid needs assessment — the number of people, the hazards and the distance to help. Current guidance sets out suggested contents by workplace type.

Where should first aid cabinets be sited?

Where people actually work rather than in an office, clearly signed. Larger or spread-out sites usually need more than one point.

How often should first aid supplies be checked?

Regularly, and by a named person. Supplies get used without being reported and sterile dressings have expiry dates.

Which brands do you stock for First Aid Cupboards?
