A spreader beam takes the load through slings at each end and works mainly in compression. A lifting beam has a single top attachment and works in bending, which makes it heavier for the same capacity but more compact in headroom. Choose on the clearance available.
Modular beams use interchangeable struts between fixed end units, so one system covers a range of spans. Changing the lifting centres means adding or removing struts rather than hiring a different beam, which is what makes them worth standardising on for repeat work.
Beams are lifting equipment and need periodic thorough examination. Keep the certificate with the beam and check the marked capacity matches the configuration assembled — modular systems are rated by span, so the rating changes with the build.
A spreader beam is loaded through slings at both ends and works in compression. A lifting beam has one central attachment and works in bending — heavier, but better where headroom is tight.
Interchangeable struts bolt between two end units, so one system covers many spans. Changing lifting centres means adding or removing struts.
Periodically by a competent person, with the interval depending on use and current regulations. The certificate should stay with the beam and match the assembled configuration.
The range covers Modular Spreader Beams, Multi-Sec Components and Modulift.
Related ranges include Tipping Skips, Cranes, Goods Carrying Cage, Hoists and Trolleys, Cantidecks, Rescue Cages, Lifting Frames and Wire Rope Pullers.
