Yale Fall Arrest Twin Tail Lanyard with Energy Absorber

Twin Tail | 2m Length | Two Scaffold Hooks | Webbing or Rope Construction | Continuous Connection for Climbing | EN 354 and EN 355 Compliant

The Yale Fall Arrest Twin Tail Lanyard is a Y-shaped lanyard with two independent tails terminating in scaffold hooks, for tasks where the user must remain continuously connected while moving between positions. One tail stays connected to the previous anchor until the second tail is secured to the next โ€” eliminating the moment of disconnection that exists with a single-tail lanyard. Available in webbing or rope construction, both with a shared integral energy absorber; manufactured by Columbus McKinnon under the Yale brand with test certificate and operating manual.

Key Features

  • Twin tail Y-configuration โ€” two independent tails allow continuous connection during transfers between anchor points
  • Shared integral energy absorber โ€” limits peak arrest force to 6 kN regardless of which tail arrests the fall, EN 355 compliant
  • Two construction options โ€” webbing for lower weight and profile, rope for improved abrasion resistance
  • Scaffold hooks on both tails โ€” fast attachment to scaffold tubes during climbing or position changes
  • EN 362 compliant connectors โ€” self-closing, self-locking, minimum strength 22 kN
  • Eliminates the disconnection moment โ€” the user remains connected at all times, even while transferring between anchors
  • Compatible with all Yale harnesses โ€” connects to the rear D-ring of any Yale fall arrest harness

More About This Product

The Yale Fall Arrest Twin Tail Lanyard is a Y-shaped lanyard with two independent tails terminating in scaffold hooks, used for tasks where the user needs to remain continuously connected to an anchor point while moving between positions. While the user transfers from one anchor to the next, one tail remains connected to the previous anchor until the second tail is secured to the next โ€” eliminating the moment of disconnection that exists with a single-tail lanyard. Available in webbing or rope construction, both with a shared integral energy absorber. Manufactured by Columbus McKinnon under the Yale lifting brand, supplied with a manufacturer's test certificate and operating manual.

Suitable Applications

Essential for tasks that involve climbing or moving between anchor points at height โ€” scaffold erection and dismantling, structural steel erection, telecoms tower climbing, and any task where the user changes position multiple times during a working session. The twin tail eliminates the moment of disconnection that occurs with a single-tail lanyard when transferring between anchors, significantly reducing fall risk during transfers.

How to Use the Twin Tail Lanyard

  1. Carry out a pre-use visual inspection of the lanyard โ€” both tails, energy absorber cover, stitching, and all three connectors.
  2. Verify the harness has been correctly fitted and adjusted by the user.
  3. Confirm the anchor points are certified to a minimum strength of 12 kN.
  4. Calculate the required fall clearance for the longest tail โ€” lanyard length + energy absorber deployment + user height + safety margin.
  5. Connect the central end of the lanyard to the rear D-ring of the harness.
  6. Connect one tail to the first anchor point.
  7. To transfer between anchors, connect the second tail to the next anchor first, then disconnect the first tail from the previous anchor.
  8. Continue until the working position is reached โ€” at all times at least one tail is connected to a certified anchor.

Warning:
Never use both tails to extend the lanyard length by connecting them in series. Both tails share a single energy absorber โ€” only one tail can arrest a fall at a time, so do not connect both tails to the same anchor as a load-sharing arrangement. Always plan the climbing route and identify anchor points before commencing work.

Safety Information

  • Always verify fall clearance below each anchor before commencing work.
  • Always inspect both tails and the energy absorber before each use.
  • Always attach to certified anchor points rated to a minimum of 12 kN.
  • Always plan the climbing route and identify anchor points before commencing work.
  • Never connect both tails to the same anchor for load sharing.
  • Never use a lanyard that has arrested a fall โ€” withdraw from service.
  • Never modify, repair, or shorten the lanyard in any way.

Inspection and Maintenance

Inspect both tails, the energy absorber cover, and all connectors before each use. Clean using warm water and mild detergent only. Air-dry away from direct heat. Store in a clean, dry place. Thorough examination by a competent person at least every 6 months. Maximum service life typically 10 years from date of first use, subject to inspection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why use a twin tail lanyard instead of a single tail?

When the user needs to move between anchor points during a working session, a single tail lanyard requires a moment of disconnection when transferring. A twin tail eliminates this โ€” the user connects the second tail to the next anchor before disconnecting the first tail from the previous anchor, remaining connected at all times.

Q: Should I choose webbing or rope?

Webbing is lighter and lower profile. Rope is more abrasion-resistant. Choose rope for rigging and structural steel work where the lanyard may be exposed to rough edges; choose webbing for general scaffold and access work.

Q: Can both tails share a fall arrest load?

No. Both tails share a single energy absorber. Only one tail can arrest a fall at a time. Connecting both tails to the same anchor for load sharing does not increase the system strength and is not recommended.

Q: How do I transfer between anchor points safely?

Connect the second tail to the next anchor first. Once you have verified the second tail is correctly attached and gates are locked, then disconnect the first tail. At all times at least one tail must be connected to a certified anchor.

Q: What happens after a fall?

The lanyard must be withdrawn from service and inspected by a competent person. The energy absorber is single-use and must be replaced.

Q: Are the scaffold hooks compatible with all scaffold tubes?

The Yale scaffold hook fits standard 48 mm scaffold tubes. Check the gate opening for non-standard tube sizes before purchase.

Q: How often should the lanyard be inspected?

Pre-use inspection before every use, thorough examination by a competent person every 6 months.
