Course Overview

WOLFF rescue systems are currently in use on a wide variety of structures, spanning many industries. Simplicity of use combined with specific training makes it easy to achieve a competent onsite rescue provision. This provides a vital link between your workforce and emergency services.

Who is this course for?

All personnel who may be able to offer a first response to a tower crane operator who is in need of assistance at height.

What to expect

Course aim:

  • To provide knowledge and education in the safe use of the rescue equipment.
  • To provide competency in using the tower crane operator rescue system.

Pre-training requirements:

  • Delegates must be over 18 with an aptitude for work
    at height.
  • It is recommended that you choose personnel who are already competent at working at height and using work at height PPE.

Instructor to student ratio:

  • 1:6 maximum

Assessment and certification:

  • Delegates will continuously be assessed throughout the training - upon completion of training, a certificate will be issued which is valid for one year.
  • An additional day’s training is available should you wish to refresh your knowledge or train another person.

Course Details

Course Length: 1 day

Rescue Plan: Included

Requirements: Over 18s, personnel competent working at height

Assessment: Continuous assessment throughout

Certifications: Certificate of competency valid for 1 year

Training Cost: £1,200 for upto 6 people

The Operator Rescue System utilises a Rescue Genie winch to create an approximately 6:1 mechanical advantage to significantly reduce the load of any operator casualties, allowing for a controlled decent from height.

The equipment is certified for 12 months and must be kept on site at all times.

Rescue system includes:

  • 50m English braids 11mm rope
  • Singing rock evacuation triangle combi 2
  • Petzl I’D descender
  • Petzl fixe pulley
  • Aluminium lock-safe karabiners
  • 2 x Lyon 120cm 25mm sewn protected sling
  • Beal tag line 5mm x 40m rope
  • Rescue Genie winch
  • Kit bag or weather-resistant storage container
  • Lyon 1m rope protector

The rescue plan is intended to provide specific information regarding the rescue of an incapacitated person from a tower crane cab or tower section and should be read in conjunction with the overall site emergency plan.

In the event of an emergency the trained rescue team and their management will refer to the rescue plan document. The rescue plan may require further site risk assessment to ensure evolving site conditions are considered.

WOLFF Onsite offer a Rescue Climber Kit as an additional safety kit to keep on-site. In the rare event that a crane operator is incapacitated and requires rescue, the rescue climbers kit is an essential low cost piece of equipment that should be on every tower crane site.
