Steerman RPB Roller Pinch Bar

The Steerman RPB Roller Pinch Bar is the companion tool to the Steerman load moving skate range โ€” used to wedge open gaps under heavy loads to insert a toe jack (which does the substantial lifting), or to gently lift lighter loads directly onto a skate. Low toe plate gets into the tightest gaps. Available as RPB15 (1.5t capacity, 16.5kg) and RPB50 (5t capacity, 32kg), both 145mm lift height and 2150ร—400mm overall.

Steerman RPB Roller Pinch Bar

Models RPB15 and RPB50 | 1500kgโ€“5000kg Capacity | 145mm Lift Height | Low Toe Plate | Companion Tool for Load Moving Skates

The Steerman RPB Roller Pinch Bar is the ideal companion tool for the professional load mover. Compact and lightweight, it's used to wedge open small gaps under heavy loads or to gently lift a load at its edge just enough to insert a toe jack underneath โ€” which then does the bulk of the lifting required to position a load moving skate. For lighter loads, the RPB can sometimes be used directly to lift onto a skate. The low toe plate height lets the RPB get into the tightest gaps under heavy industrial loads. Available in 1.5t (RPB15) and 5t (RPB50) capacities. Supplied with certification and documentation, consistent with the rest of the Steerman load moving range.

European Manufactured | CE Compliant

This product is manufactured to European standards by Yale Industrial Products, part of the Columbus McKinnon group. All units are supplied with a CE Declaration of Conformity. Load moving skates are classed as work equipment under PUWER 1998. Regular visual inspection is required before every use, with periodic thorough examination by a competent person in line with site safety policy and any applicable insurance requirements.

Key Features

  • Companion tool to Steerman/Yale load moving skates โ€” designed alongside the Steerman skate range as the standard tool for engaging skates under heavy loads
  • Low toe plate height โ€” fits into the tightest gaps under heavy industrial loads
  • 145mm lift height โ€” enough to wedge open a gap and insert a toe jack (which does the larger lift), or to lift lighter loads directly onto a skate
  • Compact and lightweight โ€” simple to use, easy to transport between sites
  • Steel wheels for durability โ€” robust roller construction at the load-contact end
  • Two capacities available โ€” 1.5t RPB15 for light to medium loads, 5t RPB50 for heavy industrial work

Suitable Applications

The RPB is the companion tool to the Steerman SX/S, LF, LFL and Yale LX skate ranges. Standard use is to wedge open a gap under the edge of a heavy load to allow a toe jack to be inserted underneath โ€” the toe jack then does the substantial lifting needed to position a skate. For lighter loads, the RPB may be used directly to lift the edge of the load just enough to slide a skate underneath. Suitable for workshop, on-site and yard work wherever load moving skates are deployed.

How to Use the Roller Pinch Bar

  1. Survey the load โ€” confirm there is a solid pinch point on the load edge for the roller to engage.
  2. Position the rollers against the bottom edge of the load.
  3. Use the long handle as a lever, applying downward force to lift the load on the roller (up to 145mm).
  4. For heavier loads: once a gap is created, insert a rated toe jack and use the jack to lift the load to skate height.
  5. For lighter loads: with the load lifted on the roller, slide the skate platform under the load with a second operator.
  6. Slowly lower the load by reducing pressure on the handle.
  7. Repeat for additional skates as required.

Warning: Do not use as a sustained lifting device โ€” the RPB is for short-duration positioning lifts only. For heavier loads, use the RPB to insert a toe jack rather than lifting onto a skate directly.

Safety Information

  • Confirm a solid pinch point on the load before applying lift force.
  • Keep hands and feet clear of the load while it is lifted on the rollers.
  • Do not use as a sustained lifting support โ€” engage a toe jack or block the load as soon as practical.
  • Inspect the rollers, frame and handle before each use for cracks or distortion.
  • Use two operators wherever possible โ€” one on the bar, one to position the skate or jack.

Inspection and Maintenance

Inspect before each use with attention to the steel roller condition, frame welds and handle integrity. Replace any worn or damaged components.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What's the difference between the RPB and a toe jack?

The RPB is a manual lever for opening a small gap under a load (up to 145mm lift). A toe jack is a hydraulic lifting tool that lifts much further and more controllably. Standard practice is to use the RPB first to insert a toe jack โ€” the toe jack then does the substantial lifting required to position a skate.

Q: Can I use the RPB to lift a load directly onto a skate?

For lighter loads within the RPB's rated capacity (1.5t for RPB15, 5t for RPB50), yes. For heavier loads, use the RPB to insert a toe jack first; the toe jack then handles the substantial lifting.

Q: Why is the RPB50 heavier than the RPB15?

The RPB50 has a substantially stronger frame and roller assembly to deliver the 5t capacity โ€” hence its 32kg weight versus the RPB15's 16.5kg. Both share the same overall 2150ร—400mm footprint.
