  • Stackable design with snap hooks โ€” multiple units stack securely on top of each other for compact storage on site or during transport
  • Heavy-duty steel construction โ€” rugged, heavy-gauge steel body built to withstand daily use in demanding construction environments
  • Full-length fork pockets โ€” accommodates standard forklift and telehandler forks for quick, easy pick-up without adapters
  • Fully load tested and certified โ€” every unit is individually tested and supplied with documentation to meet LOLER requirements

More About This Product

The Eichinger Steel Mortar Skip (Model 1047) is a heavy-duty bulk material skip designed for moving raw materials around construction sites by crane or forklift. Built in Germany by Florian Eichinger GmbH, the 1047 features crane lugs for attaching a 4-leg crane sling and full-length fork pockets for forklift or telehandler transport, giving site teams complete flexibility in how materials are moved. The stackable design with integrated snap hooks allows multiple units to be stored compactly on site when not in use, saving valuable space on congested builds. Every unit is fully load tested and certified, giving site managers and lifting supervisors confidence that every lift meets current safety regulations.

Suitable Applications

The 1047 Steel Mortar Skip is designed for any application where bulk materials need to be stored, transported and delivered around a construction site by crane or forklift. It is commonly used for transporting premixed mortar, sand, aggregate, tools and general loose materials to bricklaying teams working at height. The crane lugs make it ideal for tower crane operations on multi-storey builds, while the fork pockets allow the same skip to be moved by forklift at ground level. The 1047 is used extensively across residential housebuilding, commercial construction, civil engineering projects, and by hire companies supplying equipment to the construction industry.

How to Use the Steel Mortar Skip

  1. Place the skip on a flat, level surface before filling. Do not exceed the rated Safe Working Load (SWL) shown on the type plate.
  2. Fill the skip evenly, ensuring the load is distributed across the base and does not exceed the height of the sides.
  3. For crane lifting, attach a suitably rated 4-leg chain sling to the crane lugs. Ensure all hooks are fully closed and secure before lifting.
  4. For forklift transport, insert forks fully into the fork pockets. Ensure the load is stable and balanced before moving.
  5. Raise the skip slowly off the ground and check for balance and load security before proceeding.
  6. Move the load to the intended delivery area, avoiding sudden or jolting movements.
  7. Lower the skip carefully onto a flat, stable surface at the delivery point.
  8. When stacking empty skips for storage, use the integrated snap hooks to lock units together securely.

Certification and Compliance

This product is CE marked and supplied with a full EC Declaration of Conformity in accordance with the EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. A UKCA certificate is also provided where required for the Great Britain market. Following Brexit, the UK government has confirmed indefinite recognition of CE marking for lifting equipment in Great Britain, meaning businesses can use either UKCA or CE marked accessories provided the equipment is accompanied by a Declaration of Conformity (DoC). The skip is manufactured under a DIN ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management system, and independently tested by TรœV Nord for product and workplace safety (GS โ€” Tested Safety mark). It is built in accordance with the occupational health and safety regulations of the German Berufsgenossenschaften (BG). All lifting equipment used on UK construction sites must comply with the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER).

Safety Information

  • Never exceed the rated Safe Working Load (SWL) as shown on the type plate.
  • Always ensure the load is evenly distributed and does not exceed the height of the skip sides.
  • Inspect all crane slings, hooks and lifting accessories before each use.
  • When using with a forklift, ensure the forks are fully inserted and the skip is stable before moving.
  • Do not lift the skip by the snap hooks โ€” these are for stacking security only, not for lifting.
  • A risk assessment must be carried out prior to moving or using this equipment.
  • Operation only by persons who are familiar with the equipment and have read the operating instructions.
  • Ensure the area of use is clear of overhead cables, power lines, or similar hazards that may affect safe use.
  • Required PPE: hard hat, safety boots, gloves, and hi-vis vest.
  • The type plate must remain present and legible at all times. If defects are found, the equipment must not be used until rectified.

Inspection and Maintenance

The steel mortar skip must be inspected before each use and undergo a thorough examination at least every 12 months by a competent person in accordance with LOLER 1998. All inspections must be documented and any defects rectified immediately before the equipment is returned to service. Regular cleaning after each use will extend the working life of the skip โ€” pay particular attention to the crane lugs, fork pockets and snap hook stacking mechanism. Check for signs of corrosion, weld cracking or deformation, particularly around the lifting points.
