Eichinger Plastic Mortar Skip

Model 1225 | Polyethylene Construction | Crane & Forklift Liftable | Stackable | CE Marked | UKCA Compliant

The Eichinger Plastic Mortar Skip (Model 1225) is a lightweight, virtually indestructible mortar tub manufactured from solid polyethylene that is fully resistant to UV radiation and weathering. Built in Germany by Florian Eichinger GmbH, the 1225 features a reinforced steel frame around the top edge of the container and rugged crane-rated legs designed specifically for safe crane transportation. The tub is fully certified for both crane and forklift lifting, allowing all-round economical movement of premixed mortar to wherever it is needed on site. Unlike steel mortar tubs, the polyethylene construction will not rust, dent or corrode, significantly extending the working life of each unit and reducing fleet maintenance costs. The lightweight design also reduces the payload on each crane lift, allowing more mortar to be transported per cycle. The stackable design ensures efficient storage and transport when units are not in use.

CE Marked, UKCA Compliant & BG Safety Approved

This product carries CE marking in accordance with EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, and a UKCA certificate is also provided where required for the UK market. The skip is designed and manufactured to the occupational health and safety standards of the German Berufsgenossenschaften (BG โ€” Employers' Liability Insurance Associations). Manufactured under DIN ISO 9001:2015 quality management and independently tested by TรœV Nord for product and workplace safety. An EC Declaration of Conformity is supplied with every unit as standard.

Technical Specifications

Model Capacity (Litres) Material
1225.2 200 Solid Polyethylene (UV Resistant)

Steel frame reinforcement around top edge. Crane-rated legs for safe lifting as standard.

Key Features

  • Unbreakable polyethylene construction โ€” manufactured from solid polyethylene that will not crack, split or shatter under normal site conditions
  • UV-resistant and weatherproof โ€” fully resistant to UV radiation and weathering, allowing the tub to be left exposed on site without material degradation
  • Steel frame reinforcement โ€” reinforced steel frame around the top edge provides structural rigidity and protection against impact damage
  • Crane-rated legs โ€” rugged legs designed and certified specifically for safe crane transportation of mortar
  • Dual lifting capability โ€” fully certified for both crane and forklift use, providing complete flexibility in how mortar is moved on site
  • Lightweight and stackable โ€” significantly lighter than steel equivalents, with a stackable design for efficient storage and transport
  • Corrosion-free โ€” will not rust, dent or corrode like traditional steel mortar tubs, reducing maintenance and extending service life
  • German-engineered construction โ€” manufactured by Florian Eichinger GmbH in Mรผhlhausen, Germany, producing construction equipment since 1904

Suitable Applications

The 1225 Plastic Mortar Skip is designed for storing, transporting and distributing premixed mortar on construction sites. It is commonly used by bricklaying teams on residential housebuilding and commercial construction projects where mortar needs to be lifted to upper floors by crane or moved around ground-level working areas by forklift. The corrosion-free polyethylene construction makes it particularly suitable for long-term hire fleet use where durability and low maintenance are priorities. The lightweight design is also advantageous on sites where crane capacity is limited, as it reduces the payload per lift compared to heavier steel alternatives. The 1225 is used across residential and commercial construction, civil engineering, and by national and regional hire companies supplying equipment to the UK construction industry.

How to Use the Plastic Mortar Skip

  1. Place the mortar tub on a flat, level surface before filling. Do not exceed the rated Safe Working Load (SWL) shown on the type plate.
  2. Fill the tub evenly with premixed mortar, ensuring the load is distributed across the base and does not exceed the height of the sides.
  3. For crane lifting, attach a suitably rated lifting device to the crane-rated legs. Ensure all connections are secure before lifting.
  4. For forklift transport, insert forks carefully under the tub frame. Ensure the load is stable and balanced before moving.
  5. Raise the tub slowly off the ground and check for balance and load security before proceeding.
  6. Move the load to the intended delivery area, avoiding sudden or jolting movements.
  7. Lower the tub carefully onto a flat, stable surface at the delivery point.
  8. After use, clean the tub thoroughly with water to remove all mortar residue. The polyethylene surface is naturally easier to clean than steel.
  9. When stacking empty tubs for storage, ensure units are aligned and stable before leaving unattended.

Certification and Compliance

This product is CE marked and supplied with a full EC Declaration of Conformity in accordance with the EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. A UKCA certificate is also provided where required for the Great Britain market. Following Brexit, the UK government has confirmed indefinite recognition of CE marking for lifting equipment in Great Britain, meaning businesses can use either UKCA or CE marked accessories provided the equipment is accompanied by a Declaration of Conformity (DoC). The tub is manufactured under a DIN ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management system, and independently tested by TรœV Nord for product and workplace safety (GS โ€” Tested Safety mark). It is built in accordance with the occupational health and safety regulations of the German Berufsgenossenschaften (BG). All lifting equipment used on UK construction sites must comply with the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER).

Safety Information

  • Never exceed the rated Safe Working Load (SWL) as shown on the type plate.
  • Always ensure the load is evenly distributed and does not exceed the height of the tub sides.
  • Inspect the steel frame, legs and all lifting points before each use for signs of damage, cracking or deformation.
  • Check the polyethylene body for deep gouges or cuts that may compromise structural integrity.
  • Do not use the tub if the steel frame is bent, cracked or detached from the polyethylene body.
  • A risk assessment must be carried out prior to moving or using this equipment.
  • Operation only by persons who are familiar with the equipment and have read the operating instructions.
  • Ensure the area of use is clear of overhead cables, power lines, or similar hazards that may affect safe use.
  • Required PPE: hard hat, safety boots, gloves, and hi-vis vest.
  • The type plate must remain present and legible at all times. If defects are found, the equipment must not be used until rectified.

Inspection and Maintenance

The plastic mortar skip must be inspected before each use and undergo a thorough examination at least every 12 months by a competent person in accordance with LOLER 1998. All inspections must be documented and any defects rectified immediately before the equipment is returned to service. Regular cleaning after each use will extend the working life of the tub โ€” the polyethylene surface is naturally resistant to mortar build-up and easier to clean than steel alternatives. Pay particular attention to the steel frame reinforcement, crane-rated legs and any connection points between the steel frame and polyethylene body.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the Eichinger 1225 Plastic Mortar Skip used for?

The 1225 is designed for storing, transporting and distributing premixed mortar on construction sites. It can be lifted by crane to upper floors or moved by forklift at ground level, providing a lightweight, corrosion-free alternative to traditional steel mortar tubs.

Q: Why choose plastic over steel?

The polyethylene construction offers several advantages over steel: it will not rust, dent or corrode, significantly extending service life. It is lighter, allowing more mortar per crane lift. It is UV-resistant and weatherproof, so can be left exposed on site without degradation. It is also easier to clean, as mortar residue does not bond as readily to polyethylene as it does to steel.

Q: Can the 1225 be lifted by crane and forklift?

Yes, the 1225 is fully certified for both crane and forklift use. The rugged crane-rated legs are designed specifically for safe crane transportation, and the tub can also be handled by forklift or telehandler.

Q: Can the tubs be stacked?

Yes, the lightweight stackable design allows multiple empty units to be stored compactly on site or stacked for transport, minimising the storage footprint on congested builds.

Q: Is the 1225 CE marked and UKCA compliant?

Yes, the 1225 carries CE marking in accordance with EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and a UKCA certificate is provided where required for the UK market. It is manufactured under DIN ISO 9001:2015 quality management, independently tested by TรœV Nord, and built to the safety standards of the German Berufsgenossenschaften (BG). An EC Declaration of Conformity is supplied with every unit.

Q: How often does the skip need to be inspected?

The tub must be visually inspected before each use and undergo a thorough examination at least every 12 months by a competent person, in accordance with the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER). All inspection records must be documented and retained.

Q: Who manufactures the 1225?

The 1225 is manufactured by Florian Eichinger GmbH in Mรผhlhausen, Bavaria, Germany. Eichinger has been producing construction and lifting equipment since 1904 and is one of Europe's leading manufacturers of crane and forklift attachments. All products are manufactured in-house at their German facility โ€” they do not outsource fabrication.
