The Yale ASHS heavy-duty weld-on hook is a universal lifting attachment for welding to trucks, excavators, low loaders, big bag frames, spreader beams and lifting frames. The hook and forged safety latch are epoxy resin coated for added corrosion protection, with a stainless steel return spring. Every weld-on hook carries an identification number so its history can be traced back through forging to the origin of the material โ€” meeting the stringent traceability requirements of modern lifting equipment standards.

Refer to the Yale ASH datasheet for full dimensional data (overall height, hook opening, throat depth, weld preparation requirements). All ASHS hooks are forged from drop-forged alloy steel and supplied with a forged safety latch and stainless steel return spring.

CE Marked, UKCA Compliant & Fully Traceable

The ASHS weld-on hook is supplied with documentation including UKCA / CE marking and certification. Every hook has an identification number traceable back to the forging and material origin. Fully compatible with LOLER 1998 (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) when correctly welded and load-tested. The hook can be welded without any special preparation, e.g. pre-warming.

Suitable Applications

The ASHS heavy-duty weld-on hook is ideal as a permanent or semi-permanent lifting attachment point on trucks, excavators, plant equipment, low loaders, big bag lifting frames, spreader beams, custom lifting devices, and recovery vehicles. Heavier than the standard ASH range โ€” the 3000kg, 5000kg and 8000kg ASHS variants are designed for industrial and heavy plant applications.

How to Use the ASHS Weld-On Hook

  1. Inspect the hook before welding. Check the body, hook opening, safety latch and return spring for damage. Do not use if defects are found.
  2. Select a suitable mounting position on the host structure. The host material must be of weldable quality and rated to carry the load applied through the hook.
  3. Weld the hook to the host structure in accordance with the hook manufacturer's instructions and applicable welding standards. No pre-warming is required for the ASHS weld-on hook itself, but consider the host material's requirements.
  4. Inspect the completed weld for full penetration, absence of cracks, and correct fillet size. The weld must be capable of carrying the rated WLL.
  5. Have a competent person proof-load test the welded hook before placing it into service, as required by the design of the lifting equipment it forms part of.
  6. In use, ensure the load is attached via a suitable sling, shackle or attachment with the safety latch fully closed.
  7. Do not exceed the rated WLL. Do not side-load or point-load the hook outside its designed direction of pull.
  8. Inspect periodically for cracks at the weld, hook deformation, safety latch wear, and corrosion damage.

Important:
Welding of lifting equipment must be carried out by a qualified welder in accordance with applicable welding procedures. The completed weld and hook installation must be proof-load tested and certified by a competent person before being placed into service, in accordance with LOLER 1998.

Inspection and Maintenance

Inspect before every use, including checking the hook body for elongation or deformation, the safety latch for damage or weak return spring, the weld for cracks (particularly at the toe of the weld), and the surface coating for damage or corrosion. Arrange thorough examination by a qualified engineer at least every 6 months when in regular use, in accordance with LOLER 1998. Replace the safety latch assembly when wear is noted; replacement latches are available from Yale.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the ASHS hook need pre-warming before welding?

No. The Yale ASHS weld-on hook can be welded without any special preparation such as pre-warming. However, the host material to which the hook is being welded may have its own preparation requirements โ€” always follow the weld procedure for the host material and consult a qualified welder.

Is a load test required after welding?

Yes. As with all welded lifting attachments, the completed installation should be proof-load tested by a competent person before being placed into service, in accordance with LOLER 1998. The test load and procedure depend on the design of the lifting device the hook forms part of.

Can I replace the safety latch?

Yes. Replacement safety latch assemblies for Yale ASH and ASHS weld-on hooks are available โ€” contact us for the correct replacement part for your hook model.

How often should the ASHS be inspected?

A visual inspection is required before every use, including checks on the weld, hook body, safety latch and surface coating. Delivery Information

From our depot to your site, every order is fully tracked and delivered on our own WOLFF Onsite vehicles or via trusted courier partners. Delivery costs are calculated based on your postcode and order size.

Pallet Delivery
Dispatched within 1โ€“2 working days, delivered next working day between 8amโ€“5pm, Monday to Friday. Delivery cost is based on the number of pallet spaces and your delivery zone.

Parcel Delivery
Smaller items like radio accessories and safety equipment ship via tracked courier at a flat rate. Deliveries between 8:30amโ€“5pm, Monday to Friday.

RENTAL Delivery / Collection
All rentals are delivered and collected by the WOLFF Onsite team. We'll confirm a delivery time that works for you and arrange collection within 3 working days of your hire end date. Deliveries and collections between 8amโ€“5pm, Monday to Friday, Saturday collections can be arranged if suitable.

Dispatch Times
Orders placed by 1pm are dispatched same day where possible. Some products carry a manufacturing lead time, this is always stated in the product description.
