How to Use the Yale YFS Retractor

1. Verify capacity match: Confirm the tool weight falls within the model's rated band. The retractor will not hold position correctly if the tool is significantly lighter or heavier than the rated range.
2. Mount the retractor securely: Suspend from a structure rated for the working load plus an appropriate safety factor. Engage the top hook safety latch fully.
3. Fit the secondary safety chain: Attach a galvanised steel safety chain through the housing's secondary anchor point to the same structural mount, providing a redundant load path independent of the primary suspension hook.
4. Inspect before use: Visually check the cable for kinks, frays, or surface damage; verify the snap hook latch operates correctly; check the housing for impact damage.
5. Attach the tool: Connect the tool to the swivel snap hook via a suitable suspension point or balance ring. Ensure the safety latch fully closes.
6. Set the rest height: Adjust the movable cable stop so the tool rests at the operator's preferred working height between uses.
7. Operate: Pull the tool down to the workpiece against the spring tension; release to allow the retractor to return the tool to the rest position.
8. End of shift: Allow the cable to fully retract. Do not leave the cable extended under load overnight if avoidable.

Yale retractors are designed exclusively for tool suspension and must not be used to lift, lower, or transport personnel or loads. Never exceed the rated capacity band.
