The Conquip Goods Cage is a craneable lifting cage for moving materials between site levels safely and efficiently. Available in two sizes (Small and Large) with gate or ramp access variations, it is widely specified on multi-storey, infrastructure and groundworks projects because the load is fully contained inside the cage during the lift, eliminating the risk of materials falling from height.
Key Features
- Working Load Limit of 3000 kg across all five sizes — substantial enough for typical construction packs, rebar bundles and palletised materials.
- Gate access for forklift, telehandler or crane loading; ramp access for pallet truck and sack barrow loading at ground level.
- Mesh sides give the operator full visibility of the load and reduce overall cage weight to maximise the usable load capacity.
- Crane lifting points and fork pockets so the cage can be moved by either crane or forklift around site.
- Forged and rated lifting eyelets at 45 degrees to ensure straight-pull lifts on the chains; eyelets are inset to prevent damage when stacking.
- UK-manufactured from high-quality steel for long service life and lower lifetime cost than lighter cages that need frequent replacement.

Suitable Applications
The Goods Cage suits multi-storey housebuilding, RC frame and refurbishment projects where materials need to be moved between floors by tower crane, as well as infrastructure and civils projects where pallet trucks or sack barrows load the cage at ground level via the ramp variant before craning to the working area. Common loads include rebar lengths, brick and block packs, drainage components, fixings and tools — anything where containment during the lift matters more than open access. The Large Long-Side Ramp variant is particularly popular for long materials such as rebar that benefit from end-on loading.
How to Use
- Position the cage on a stable, level surface at the loading point.
- Open the gate or fold down the ramp depending on the variant in use.
- Load the cage evenly within the 3000 kg working load limit, distributing weight across the floor area.
- Close and secure the gate, or fold up and latch the ramp, before any lift.
- Attach a four-leg chain sling to the four lifting eyelets using suitably rated shackles.
- The slinger and banksman confirm the lift is balanced and signal the crane operator.
- The crane lifts the loaded cage to the destination level, where the slinger guides it into position.
- Lower the cage onto a stable surface, disconnect the chain sling, and unload through the gate or ramp.
Warning:
Always close gates and latch ramps before lifting. Never exceed the 3000 kg working load limit. Inspect lifting eyelets and the cage structure before each shift.
Safety Information
- Inspect lifting eyelets, chain slings, shackles and the cage structure before each shift; remove any damaged item from service.
- The crane operator, slinger and banksman must hold appropriate certification.
- Use a four-leg chain sling rated above the loaded weight, attached to all four lifting eyelets.
- Confirm crane capacity at the lift radius is suitable for the loaded cage.
- Keep ground personnel clear of the lift path during transport.
- Do not exceed the 3000 kg working load limit.
- The cage is not rated for personnel lifting — use a Conquip Access Cage for that purpose.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Which size and access type should I choose?
Pick Small (around 1.3 m square) for tools, fixings, smaller component packs and where headroom is restricted. Pick Large (2.5 m long) for rebar lengths, brick packs and longer materials. Gate access suits forklift, telehandler and crane loading. Ramp access suits pallet trucks and sack barrows where loading happens at ground level. The Large Long-Side Ramp variant gives end-on access for long materials.
Q: What is the working load limit?
All five sizes share a 3000 kg working load limit. For heavier loads up to 5000 kg, a Heavy Duty Goods Cage with gas-assisted ramp is also available — contact us for details.
Q: Can the cage be loaded with pallets?
Yes. The Small sizes have an internal clear area of around 956 x 1055 mm, suitable for euro-pallets and similar. The Large sizes have substantially more length (2.3 m) for two euro-pallets end-to-end or for long materials such as rebar.
Q: How do I move the cage around site?
Use the four crane lifting points for crane handling, or the fork pockets for forklift handling. The cage can be repositioned around the loading area without lifting the load.
Q: Can the cage be stacked when not in use?
Yes. The lifting eyelets are inset into the cage structure to prevent damage when stacking, so cages store flat and compact when out of service.
