Yale Mtrac Replacement Wire Rope

Mtrac OEM Spares | 6.5 mm Diameter | Taper-and-Hook Termination | Lengths 10 m โ€“ 150 m | Yale Factory-Terminated | CE & UKCA Marked | German Engineered

These factory-terminated replacement wire ropes for the Yale Mtrac endless wire rope winch are 6.5 mm diameter with the Mtrac-specific taper-and-hook termination โ€” sized, surface-finished and terminated to engage the Mtrac's grip-wheel mechanism correctly. Nine standard lengths cover the full application range from 10 m up to 150 m, from theatre rigging and short equipment lifts through to tall-building faรงade access and multi-storey material handling. Each rope ships ready to feed straight into the winch โ€” no field-cutting, termination or third-party adaptation required.

Key Features

  • Yale OEM Mtrac ropes: Factory-terminated to the exact specification required by the Mtrac's grip-wheel mechanism โ€” not interchangeable with generic 6.5 mm wire rope.
  • Nine standard lengths: 10 m, 20 m, 30 m, 40 m, 50 m, 60 m, 80 m, 100 m, and 150 m โ€” covers the full range of Mtrac application use cases from short equipment lifts to tall-building access.
  • Mtrac-specific taper-and-hook termination: The taper allows clean threading through the grip-wheel; the hook provides a rated working-end attachment for load slings, shackles, or direct hook-up.
  • Compatible with the full Mtrac range: Fits all six YMT models from YMT 0.66-30 (66 kg) through to YMT 5-5 (500 kg single-fall / 1,000 kg double-fall).
  • Maintains OEM certification: Using Yale OEM Mtrac rope preserves the original CE / UKCA conformity and the safe working load of the installed winch. Non-OEM substitution voids both.
  • Field-ready out of the box: No cutting, no fitting, no termination work โ€” ships ready to thread through the winch.

The taper-and-hook termination is unique to the Mtrac platform โ€” the taper allows the rope to thread through the grip-wheel cleanly, and the hook provides a rated working-end attachment for the load. Pre-fitted at the factory under controlled conditions, with the rope cut to length on a calibrated production line.

Yale OEM Spare Parts | CE & UKCA Marked | Factory-Terminated | German Engineered

Yale is a registered trademark of Columbus McKinnon Industrial Products, the global leader in hoisting and lifting equipment. These wire ropes are factory-supplied OEM spare parts for the Yale Mtrac endless wire rope winch. CE marked under the EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and UKCA marked under the UK Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008. Each rope is terminated under the Yale quality management system (EN ISO 9001) with the Mtrac-specific taper-and-hook fitting. Use of OEM Mtrac ropes is required to maintain the original winch certification under UK LOLER 1998 / PUWER 1998 inspection regimes โ€” generic 6.5 mm ropes will not engage the grip-wheel correctly and void the manufacturer Declaration of Conformity for the parent winch.

More About This Product

These are factory-terminated replacement wire ropes for the Yale Mtrac endless wire rope winch range. Each rope is 6.5 mm diameter with the Mtrac-specific taper-and-hook termination at the working end โ€” sized, surface-finished, and terminated to the exact specification required to engage the Mtrac's grip-wheel mechanism correctly. Nine standard lengths cover the full Mtrac application range from 10 m up to 150 m, suitable for everything from theatre rigging and short equipment lifts through to tall-building faรงade access and multi-storey construction site material handling. Each rope ships ready to feed straight into the winch โ€” no field-cutting, no field-termination, no third-party adaptation required.

Suitable Applications

The Yale Mtrac Wire Ropes are the scheduled spare-parts pool for Yale Mtrac fleets across theatre and event rigging, construction site material handling, tall-building faรงade access, telecom mast work, marine and offshore mooring operations, and any other installation where Mtrac winches are deployed. Wire ropes are wearing components and require replacement at LOLER Thorough Examination when discard criteria are met (broken wires, kinks, surface damage, or deformation). Holding a small stock of the lengths used in your installations minimises downtime when a rope must be replaced. Operating sites with multiple Mtrac winches typically standardise on 2โ€“3 rope length variants โ€” order an OEM datasheet matching your winches to confirm which lengths fit each application.

How to Specify and Install

  1. Identify your Mtrac model: Read the model designation from the winch data plate (YMT 1-15, YMT 3-5, YMT 5-5, etc.).
  2. Determine the required rope length: Measure the working lift height plus the length of rope retained on the load-side of the unit plus the trailing length on the opposite side. Round up to the next standard length in the range.
  3. Order the matching SKU: Specify the length (10 m โ€“ 150 m) and order the OEM article number. All Mtrac ropes are 6.5 mm regardless of model.
  4. Decommission the existing rope: Power off the winch at the mains supply. Run the existing rope through to its end and detach. Inspect the grip-wheel mechanism for wear or damage before fitting the new rope.
  5. Feed the new rope through the unit: Insert the taper end into the Mtrac's rope inlet per the OEM manual. The grip-wheel will engage the rope as it passes through.
  6. Verify rope path and clearance: Ensure the trailing end of the rope (exiting the opposite side of the unit during lifting) has a clear path to fall or coil safely.
  7. Test under no-load: Run the winch briefly in both directions, verifying smooth rope feed and clean grip-wheel engagement.
  8. Arrange Thorough Examination: A LOLER inspection by a competent person should be carried out following rope replacement before returning the winch to full-load duty.

Warning:
Wire ropes are safety-critical components of an endless winch system. Use only OEM Yale Mtrac replacement ropes โ€” generic 6.5 mm rope will not engage the grip-wheel correctly. Field-cutting, splicing, or re-terminating Mtrac ropes is prohibited; the termination is calibrated to a specific cut length and any field modification voids the rope's rating and the winch's certification.

Safety Information

  • Use only OEM Yale 6.5 mm Mtrac rope with the correct taper-and-hook termination.
  • Do not field-cut, splice, or re-terminate replacement ropes.
  • Verify the rope passes cleanly through the grip-wheel during a no-load test before applying any load.
  • Power off the winch at the supply before any rope work.
  • Inspect the new rope's full length for any transit damage before fitting.
  • Arrange a LOLER Thorough Examination by a competent person following rope replacement before returning to full-load duty.
  • Wire ropes that have been used on a Mtrac should not be re-fitted on a different Mtrac unit โ€” the grip-wheel surface marks the rope differently for each unit.

Inspection and Maintenance

Replacement Mtrac ropes ship in protective packaging from CMCO and should be stored in their original packaging until use, in a dry environment away from chemicals, sunlight, and impact. Inspect the rope before installation for any transit damage. Once installed, the rope becomes a serviceable component of the winch and is inspected at every Thorough Examination under LOLER. Yale's standard discard criteria apply: broken wires, surface damage (kinks, deformation, severe wear), corrosion, and elongation beyond the manufacturer's tolerance. Pay particular attention to the rope section that passes most frequently through the grip-wheel โ€” wear concentrates at the operating length. WOLFF Onsite holds stock of common Mtrac rope sizes โ€” contact our spares team for emergency replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I use any 6.5 mm wire rope on a Mtrac?

No โ€” the Mtrac's grip-wheel mechanism requires a specific rope construction, surface finish, and termination format. Generic 6.5 mm ropes will slip in the grip-wheel, may damage the mechanism, and cannot be guaranteed to hold rated load. Always order matched OEM Mtrac rope.

Q: How do I work out which length I need?

Measure the working lift height (the distance the load needs to travel). Add the length of rope retained on the load side when fully lowered, plus a safe trailing length on the opposite side. Round up to the next standard length in the range (10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 80, 100, or 150 m). The Mtrac operating manual gives specific guidance per model.

Q: Why are these more expensive than generic 6.5 mm wire rope?

Three reasons: (1) factory termination โ€” each rope is professionally terminated under Yale's ISO 9001 quality system with the Mtrac-specific taper-and-hook; (2) specific rope construction โ€” the rope is engineered to engage the grip-wheel correctly, which generic ropes do not; (3) OEM certification โ€” using Yale OEM ropes maintains the CE / UKCA conformity of the installed winch.

Q: Can I cut a longer rope down to a shorter length?

No. The taper-and-hook termination is calibrated to a specific cut length and any field modification voids the rope's rating. Always order the standard length you need.

Q: How often do Mtrac ropes need replacing?

Depends on duty cycle and operating environment. Light-duty installations may run for years; heavy-duty daily-use installations may need replacement every 6โ€“12 months. The rope must be replaced when discard criteria are met under the LOLER Thorough Examination โ€” broken wires, surface damage, corrosion, or elongation beyond the manufacturer's tolerance.

Q: Do I need a LOLER inspection after rope replacement?

Yes โ€” rope replacement on a powered lifting winch is a structural service event under UK LOLER 1998, and a Thorough Examination by a competent person should be carried out before returning the winch to full-load duty. WOLFF Onsite provides LOLER inspection alongside rope replacement as a combined service.
