Project Overview
McGoff Construction faced a significant power challenge on their Manchester site. Their original set up involved four diesel generators to operate critical lifting equipment, a setup with highs costs and heavy environmental implications.
WOLFF Onsite were brought in and advised that a low voltage temporary building supply would soon become available. With time of the essence, the project needed to be hook-ready and fully operational as quickly as possible to meet programme milestones.
The Solution
WOLFF Onsite provided the Enertainer — a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) — as a clean, scalable alternative to diesel power. Drawing only 30A from the 90A supply, the Enertainer powered the full lifting setup seamlessly.
Key advantages included:
Remote monitoring with zero on-site management
No diesel required, dramatically cutting emissions and noise
Reduced traffic and delivery disruption, thanks to fewer fuel deliveries and less gate congestion
Mitigated risk, ensuring cranes were operational without waiting for grid upgrades
The Outcome
Over the 56-week period it’s been on hire, the Enertainer delivered outstanding environmental and operational benefits:
753 tonnes of CO2e saved
Equivalent to 327,519 commutes into Manchester avoided
Maintained full crane and hoist operations using just a fraction of the expected power
Supported on-time, on-budget programme delivery
“Without asking WOLFF Onsite for help, we wouldn't have been in a position where we were able to have a positive impact on the environment and a positive impact on the program”
