Multi-Leg Sling Configurations

1. Single-leg straight lift — uses the full 5,000 kg WLL. The simplest configuration, ideal for loads with a single central lifting point or when the sling can be passed through the load and both eyes placed on the hook.
2. Single-leg choke hitch — wraps the sling around the load and back through one eye, reducing the WLL to 4,000 kg. Provides a secure grip on cylindrical or irregular loads that might slip out of a straight hitch.
3. Two-leg basket hitch — passes the sling under the load with both eyes on the hook. The effective WLL doubles to 10,000 kg, provided the load is symmetrical and equally distributed on both legs.
4. Two-sling basket with spreader beam — for wide loads, two 5 tonne slings can be used with a spreader beam to prevent the slings from converging and crushing the load. Total effective capacity depends on the sling angle.
5. Four-point lift — four slings attached to a lifting beam provide the most stable configuration for large, flat loads such as precast panels, steel frames, and modular units. Each sling must be rated for the load share at the actual sling angle.

Webbing slings must be visually inspected before each use and undergo a thorough examination at least every six months (or in accordance with an examination scheme) by a competent person under LOLER 1998.
