Four-Leg Chain Sling

Grade 8 Chain | 8mmโ€“13mm Diameter | 4200kgโ€“11200kg WLL | 4000mm & 6000mm Lengths | Fully Certified

A hard-wearing, fully certified four-leg chain sling designed for lifting materials and equipment with multiple lift points by crane or similar lifting apparatus. The four chain legs are connected by a single central master link, with self-locking hooks fitted to each chain end. Shortener hooks are supplied as standard.

CE Marked, UKCA Compliant & Fully Certified to All Required Lifting Standards and Regulations

These chain slings are CE marked and UKCA compliant, manufactured to BS EN 818-4 (the harmonised safety standard for Grade 8 chain slings) and fully compliant with LOLER 1998 (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) and PUWER 1998 (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations).

Key Features

  • Central master link design โ€” connects all four legs to a single overhead attachment point, keeping the load level and balanced throughout the lift.
  • Self-locking hooks on all four legs โ€” secure engagement at each lift point, reducing the risk of accidental disengagement during the lift.
  • Shortener hooks supplied as standard โ€” allows the effective working length of each leg to be adjusted on site without requiring additional equipment.
  • Three chain diameter options โ€” 8mm, 10mm and 13mm, giving a WLL range from 4200kg to 11200kg to suit a wide variety of lifts.
  • Two leg lengths available โ€” 4000mm and 6000mm, with the 6000mm option offering greater flexibility for taller or wider loads.
  • Durable chain construction โ€” built to withstand the demands of repeated use on busy construction sites.

Suitable Applications

The four-leg chain sling is suited to lifts where a load has four established lift points and requires a stable, level configuration. Typical applications on construction sites include lifting pre-cast concrete panels, structural steel sections, heavy plant and machinery, formwork assemblies, and large equipment cages by tower crane or mobile crane.

How to Use the Four-Leg Chain Sling

  1. Inspect the sling before each use โ€” check all chain links, hooks and the master link for signs of wear, deformation, cracks or corrosion. Do not use if defects are found.
  2. Confirm the combined weight of the load does not exceed the WLL for the sling angle being used.
  3. Attach the master link to the crane hook or shackle, ensuring the hook gate is fully closed and secured.
  4. Attach each of the four self-locking hooks to the designated lift points on the load. Ensure all hooks are properly engaged and self-locking mechanisms are activated.
  5. Use the shortener hooks to adjust leg lengths where required, ensuring the load will hang level.
  6. Lift the load slowly and carefully, confirming balance before full lift height is reached.

Important: All lifting operations must be planned and supervised by a competent person in accordance with LOLER 1998. Chain slings must be thoroughly examined at regular intervals by a competent person and records kept.

Inspection and Maintenance

Chain slings must be inspected before every use and must undergo a thorough examination by a competent person at least every 6 months under LOLER 1998, or more frequently in arduous conditions. Remove from service immediately if any link, hook or master link shows deformation, stretch, cracks, corrosion or wear reduction. Store away from chemicals, moisture and sharp edges when not in use.

Warranty

All Conquip chain slings are covered by a 12-month product warranty against defects in material or workmanship from the date of purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the WLL of the four-leg chain sling?

Working Load Limit depends on the chain diameter and sling angle. At 0ยฐโ€“45ยฐ, the WLL is 4200kg for 8mm chain, 6700kg for 10mm chain, and 11200kg for 13mm chain. WLL reduces as the sling angle increases โ€” always check the rated capacity for the angle of use before lifting.

What are the shortener hooks for?

Shortener hooks allow the effective working length of each chain leg to be reduced on site. This is useful when legs need to be equalised to keep a load level, or when a shorter configuration is needed for the lift at hand.

What is the difference between the 4000mm and 6000mm options?

Both lengths are available in 10mm and 13mm chain diameter. The 6000mm option gives greater flexibility for taller loads or lifting scenarios where more distance is required between the crane hook and the load. The 8mm diameter is only available in 4000mm.

How often does the chain sling need to be inspected?

Under LOLER 1998, lifting equipment used to lift people must be thoroughly examined every 6 months; other lifting equipment including chain slings must be examined at least every 12 months, or in accordance with an examination scheme. In practice, thorough examination every 6 months is recommended for slings in regular use. A pre-use visual inspection is required before every lift.
