Conquip Pipe Lifting Chain Sling

Two-leg lifting chain suspending two robust pipe hooks for crane lifting and transporting pipe sections up to 4 metres long. Supplied ready to use with hooks attached to a certified two-leg chain sling. Also known as pipe laying hooks. WLL 2500kg. Purchase only.

The Conquip Pipe Lifting Chain Sling is a complete crane-lifting assembly comprising two robust pipe hooks (also known as pipe laying hooks) attached to a certified two-leg chain sling. The assembly is designed for safely and quickly lifting and transporting pipe sections of up to four metres long with a crane or other suitable lifting equipment, with the pipe sitting securely between the two hook points and balanced through the chain sling. The pipe hooks are robust and durable, manufactured for repeated heavy-duty use on drainage, sewer, and utilities projects. The complete assembly is supplied ready to use -- there is no need to assemble or commission separate components. The 2500kg Working Load Limit covers most standard concrete pipe sections used in civils and groundworks. Easy, safe, and quick to deploy, the chain sling makes pipe handling at the trench edge straightforward for the crane operator and ground crew alike. This product is supplied on a purchase-only basis.

CE-marked | LOLER 1998 compliant | Manufactured in the UK

Key Features

  • Robust, durable pipe hooks for repeated heavy-duty use
  • Two-leg chain sling with both hooks pre-attached -- no on-site assembly required
  • Capable of handling pipe sections up to 4 metres long
  • Hook geometry suits standard concrete pipe profiles (235mm internal hook height)
  • Supplied ready to use, with full LOLER certification on the chain sling
  • Easy, safe, and quick to deploy for trench-edge pipe handling
  • 2500kg WLL covers most standard concrete pipe sections used in civils work
  • Manufactured in the UK with safety as a primary design criterion

Suitable Applications

The Pipe Lifting Chain Sling is the standard crane-lifting tool for concrete pipe sections on drainage, sewer, stormwater, and utility infrastructure projects. The two-hook configuration suits straight pipe sections up to 4 metres long and is particularly valuable at the trench edge where the crane operator and banksman can position pipes accurately into prepared bedding. For excavator-mounted pipe handling, the Excavator Pipe Laying Hook is the corresponding attachment. For larger or non-standard pipes, custom rigging may be required.

How to Use

  1. Carry out a pre-use inspection: pipe hooks, chain sling links, master link, hook geometry, certification tags
  2. Confirm the sling's WLL of 2500kg is rated for the pipe section weight
  3. Verify the pipe length is within the 4-metre capacity of the assembly
  4. Connect the master link to the crane hook
  5. Lower the assembly so both hooks can be positioned around the pipe section
  6. Place each pipe hook around the pipe at balanced lifting points (approximately 1/4 and 3/4 of the pipe's length)
  7. Verify both hooks are fully engaged and the pipe is centred between them
  8. Take the strain slowly -- the chain legs will tension and the hooks will grip the pipe
  9. Verify the lift is balanced before completing the movement
  10. Position the pipe at the trench edge and lower into the prepared bedding
  11. Once the pipe is set, slacken the chain and lift the hooks clear

Warning: Working Load Limit of 2500kg must not be exceeded. Pipe length must not exceed 4 metres. Both hooks must be correctly positioned at balanced lifting points before the lift commences. Inspect chain sling and hooks before every use under LOLER 1998.

Safety Information

  • Working Load Limit of 2500kg must not be exceeded under any circumstance
  • Verify pipe weight before every lift -- concrete pipe weight varies significantly by diameter and wall thickness
  • Pipe length must not exceed 4 metres -- longer pipes require alternative rigging
  • Both hooks must be fully engaged and balanced before the lift commences
  • Pre-use inspection required; thorough examination every six months under LOLER 1998
  • Slings with stretched chain links, deformed hooks, missing certification tags, or damaged master link must be removed from service immediately
  • Chain slings must not be shortened with knots or by twisting -- use only the supplied configuration
  • Lifting must be carried out by a competent crane operator with a trained banksman or signaller
  • Ground personnel guiding the pipe must stay clear of swing zones and crush hazards
  • Do not stand directly beneath a loaded pipe during lifting or placement
  • Damaged or cracked pipes must not be lifted -- use alternative methods
