Steerman SX10 Complete Load Moving System, 10t Capacity

Model SX10 | Three-Point Steerable System | 10t Capacity | 16 Twin Polyamide Rollers | 102mm Height | 54kg

The Steerman SX10 is a 10t complete load moving system from the Steerman SX/S range, pairing a steerable front section with two adjustable rear skates joined by a tie rod. Designed and engineered in Britain by Yale Industrial Products, it runs on 16 twin polyamide rollers for low rolling resistance even at narrow curve radii. At just 102mm overall height and 54kg, the modular system combines with further components for larger loads and higher capacities.

Key Features

  • Three-point loading system โ€” steerable front section plus two adjustable rear skates joined by tie rods for stable load distribution. A four-point setup can be used for unfavourable centres of balance.
  • Twin rollers, not one wide roller โ€” gives low rolling resistance even at narrow curve radius for tight manoeuvring
  • Universal joint suspension โ€” roller groups maintain positive contact when travelling over slightly uneven floors
  • Abrasion-resistant elastic polyamide rollers โ€” high chemical resistance, protected against breakage, won't damage normal in-plant floor coverings; 16 rollers per complete system
  • Modular design โ€” components universally combinable; extra modules added for larger loads or higher capacity configurations
  • Maintenance-free โ€” each roller fitted with two encapsulated lifetime-lubricated ball bearings; spheroidal graphite cast iron frame provides excellent strength-to-weight ratio
  • British-engineered โ€” designed and engineered in Britain, powder-coated frames with corrosion-resistant connecting elements; finished to Qualicoat standards
  • 102mm overall system height โ€” confirm load clearance before deployment

European Manufactured | CE Compliant

This product is manufactured to European standards by Yale Industrial Products, part of the Columbus McKinnon group. All units are supplied with a CE Declaration of Conformity. Load moving skates are classed as work equipment under PUWER 1998. Regular visual inspection is required before every use, with periodic thorough examination by a competent person in line with site safety policy and any applicable insurance requirements.

More About This Product

The Steerman SX10 is the 10t complete load moving system from the Steerman SX/S range, supplied as a three-point loading system with a steerable front section and a pair of adjustable rear skates joined by a tie rod. Designed and engineered in Britain by Yale Industrial Products (Columbus McKinnon group) for professional load movers, the SX10 runs on 16 twin rollers of abrasion-resistant elastic polyamide (82mm diameter, black) that provide low rolling resistance even at narrow curve radii. Universal joint suspension of the roller groups maintains positive ground contact when travelling over slightly uneven floors. The modular construction means components can be universally combined โ€” extra modules added for larger or asymmetric loads, or units configured up to higher capacities. Total system overall height is just 102mm; system weight 54kg.

Suitable Applications

The Steerman SX10 is the professional load mover's choice for moving heavy industrial loads up to 10t โ€” machines, construction parts, steel structures, plant and other large or awkward items. Suitable for all in-plant floor surfaces, including normal industrial floor coverings the rollers will not damage. The modular design lets the system adapt to a wide range of load shapes and weights, and components can be stripped down for transport in small vehicles between sites.

How to Use the Load Moving System

  1. Survey the route โ€” confirm the floor is smooth, level and free of debris and is capable of supporting the loaded weight at each skate contact point.
  2. Position the rear skate pair under the rear of the load using rated jacking equipment (toe jack or Steerman RPB roller pinch bar to insert the jack).
  3. Adjust the rear tie rod to match the load width and ensure both rear skates run parallel.
  4. Position the steerable front section under the front of the load, ensuring the load is centred over the turntable.
  5. Lower the load fully onto the skates and confirm stable contact.
  6. Attach the robust towing bar to the front section.
  7. Move the load slowly using the bar, with all personnel clear of the rolling path.
  8. Bring the load to a controlled stop and re-jack to remove the skates at the destination.

Warning:
Do not exceed the 10t rated capacity. Do not use on inclines without additional restraint. Avoid shock loading โ€” always use rated jacks to lower the load onto the skates rather than lowering directly from a crane or forklift.

Safety Information

  • Ensure the operator is fully familiar with the equipment and the intended load before each use.
  • Confirm the load is within the 10t rated capacity of the system.
  • Inspect each skate, roller and the towing bar attachment before every use.
  • Keep rear skates parallel to the load and the line of direction during the move.
  • Keep all personnel clear of the rolling path while the load is in motion.
  • Use the bar to pull rather than push the load whenever practical.
  • Use spotters where the load obscures the path of any skate.

Inspection and Maintenance

The SX10 is practically maintenance-free in normal use. Inspect weekly with attention to roller polyamide condition, bearing free movement, frame weld points, the turntable on the front skate and the towing bar attachment. Clean rollers and contact surfaces of debris, oil or grease. Replace worn rollers or damaged castings using genuine Steerman spare parts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What surface does the SX10 work on?

Polyamide rollers are suitable for all in-plant floor surfaces and will not damage normal floor coverings. The universal joint suspension allows the system to travel over slightly uneven floors. For very rough or unfinished surfaces, the Steerman SCS Caterpillar Skate kit is the appropriate choice.

Q: Can I buy the front and rear sections separately?

Yes. The matching SX10F front section and SX10R rear section are sold individually for bespoke configurations or to replace damaged units. Components are universally combinable across the SX/S range so long as capacities are matched.

Q: What's the difference between 3-point and 4-point loading?

Three-point loading (one steerable front + two adjustable rears) is the standard for stable loads. Four-point loading is used for extremely bulky or heavy loads with an unfavourable centre of balance, where the additional contact point improves stability.

Q: How many rollers does the SX10 have in total?

The complete SX10 system has 16 rollers in total, distributed across the steerable front and the pair of rear skates. The total roller count is the key factor in spreading the load โ€” more contact points means lower per-roller pressure on the floor.
