The GA Series are permanently installed standby generators running on LPG or natural gas rather than diesel. That is the defining choice: a gas set connected to a mains gas supply never needs refuelling, never has fuel degrading in a tank, and can run indefinitely through an extended outage. All three models use the Generac G-Force 1000 OHV engine with automatic voltage regulation, and at 60 dB(A) at seven metres they are quiet enough to install close to a house or office without complaint.

Emissions Compliance

Stage V certified. Every model in this range meets the Stage V non-road mobile machinery emissions standard, which is a condition of entry on many local authority, London and principal contractor sites.

All models include AVR. A 100 AMP ATS panel for residential gas generators (230V and 400V) is available under code SY000A0013D, and requires a 2-wire start kit. A 10 year warranty upgrade is available (WARRANTY10).

Key Features

  • Runs on mains gas or LPG — a set connected to mains gas never needs refuelling and can run through an outage of any length, which diesel cannot.
  • No fuel degradation — the standing problem with diesel standby is fuel going stale in a tank between outages. Gas removes it entirely.
  • 60 dB(A) at seven metres — quiet enough to site near a house or office, which in practice determines whether a standby set is acceptable to install at all.
  • Generac G-Force 1000 OHV engine — purpose-designed for standby duty rather than adapted from a portable set.
  • AVR on all models — stable voltage for domestic and office electronics, boilers, IT and control gear.
  • ATS panel available — the 100A automatic transfer switch gives genuine hands-off operation — the set starts, takes the load and shuts down on its own.

Suitable Applications

The GA Series is for permanent standby installation where an outage costs money or safety: rural properties on overhead supplies, small offices and retail, veterinary and care premises, server rooms, holiday lets, and agricultural buildings with livestock systems. The three-phase GA20000 suits small commercial premises with three-phase machinery. Installation is a project rather than a purchase — gas connection, siting, exhaust, the transfer switch and commissioning all need a competent installer.

How to Use

  1. Installation must be carried out by a competent installer: gas connection by a Gas Safe registered engineer and electrical connection by a qualified electrician.
  2. Site the set in the open air with the clearances specified by the manufacturer.
  3. Connect the gas supply and confirm adequate supply pressure and volume for the model.
  4. Install the automatic transfer switch between the supply and the building distribution board.
  5. Commission and test under load, then exercise the set on the schedule set at commissioning.
  6. Check the set after every outage and at each scheduled exercise run.

Warning: Never operate a generator indoors, in a partially enclosed space, or anywhere exhaust can reach an occupied area. Exhaust contains carbon monoxide, which is colourless, odourless and fatal. Gas installation and connection must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Never attempt to connect a gas generator to a gas supply yourself.

Safety Information

  • Operate only in the open air, well clear of doors, windows and air intakes.
  • Never refuel a hot or running engine.
  • Do not connect to a building's fixed wiring without a correctly specified changeover arrangement.
  • Use only leads and connectors rated for the outlet, inspected before each use.
  • Keep fuel and flammables away from the exhaust and hot surfaces.
  • Earth the set in accordance with the site electrical arrangement.
  • Never connect to the building supply without a correctly installed automatic or manual transfer switch.
  • Confirm gas supply pressure and volume are adequate before commissioning; an undersized supply will cause the set to fail under load.

Inspection and Maintenance

Standby sets need exercising rather than just servicing. Run under load on the schedule set at commissioning so faults show up before you need the set. Check oil, battery and the gas connection at each exercise run. Keep the enclosure clear of vegetation and debris, which restricts cooling airflow. The set is work equipment in a commercial installation and falls under PUWER, and the gas installation is subject to the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations.

What's Included

  • GA Series gas standby generator in the output ordered
  • Operator and installation documentation
  • 100A ATS panel (SY000A0013D) is a separate item and requires a 2-wire start kit
  • Gas connection and electrical installation are NOT included and must be arranged with competent installers

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Gas or diesel for standby?

Gas if you have mains gas — no refuelling, no fuel degradation, and it runs indefinitely through a long outage. Diesel if there is no gas supply, or where LPG delivery would be the constraint.

Q: Does it start automatically?

With the ATS panel (SY000A0013D) fitted, yes — it detects loss of mains, starts, takes the load, and shuts down when mains returns. A 2-wire start kit is required.

Q: What size do I need?

Size against the loads that genuinely matter during an outage rather than the whole building. Heating, refrigeration, lighting, IT and any motorised plant, allowing headroom for starting currents.

Q: Who installs it?

A Gas Safe registered engineer for the gas connection and a qualified electrician for the electrical work and transfer switch. This is not a self-install product.
