Conquip Boat Skip

Self-discharge muck skip with drop-down bale arm and dog-bone release for crane lifting

The Conquip Boat Skip is a versatile self-discharge muck skip for moving general waste, spoil and building materials around site by crane. A low loading height and drop-down bale arm make filling quick and straightforward, while the dog-bone release mechanism allows the crane operator to empty the skip without ground operatives entering the discharge zone.

Key Features

  • Dog-bone release mechanism allows the crane operator to lift and empty the skip without ground assistance.
  • Lifts and tips part loads, which is not possible with traditional manually-operated circular muck skips.
  • Drop-down bale arm and low loading height for fast, easy filling.
  • Reinforced rear back to prevent distortion and catch failure over time.
  • Bush and shackle lifting point reduces wear and extends service life.
  • Optional debris cover available to reduce dust pollution during transport.
  • Five capacities from 500 to 2000 litres covering small fit-out work through to bulk muck removal.

WLL = Working Load Limit.

UK Manufactured

Self-discharge dog-bone mechanism | Drop-down bale arm | Available 500 to 2000 litres

Suitable Applications

The Boat Skip is well-suited to housebuilding, refurbishment, fit-out, civils and general construction sites where waste needs to be moved between levels by crane and tipped on the ground or into a roll-on/roll-off skip. Smaller capacities suit fit-out and finishing trades; larger capacities cover muck-away from groundworks, slab pours and general site clearance. For larger spoil volumes from bulk excavation work, the Heavy-Duty Boat Skip range is more appropriate.

How to Use

  1. Position the skip in a stable, level location with the bale arm dropped for filling.
  2. Load the skip evenly, keeping the contents within the published capacity and WLL.
  3. Raise the bale arm and attach the crane hook to the lifting point.
  4. The slinger and banksman check the lift and guide the load to the discharge area.
  5. Position the skip over the discharge zone clear of ground personnel.
  6. The crane operator activates the dog-bone release, allowing the skip to self-tip.
  7. Return the skip to the loading area and reset the locking catches before the next cycle.

Warning:
Always carry out a pre-use inspection. Never lift personnel on or in the skip. Do not exceed the working load limit (WLL) for the size in use. A trained slinger and banksman are required for every lift.

Safety Information

  • Inspect the skip body, bale arm, lifting point, dog-bone mechanism and shackles before each lift.
  • The crane operator, slinger and banksman must hold appropriate certification.
  • Keep ground personnel clear of the discharge zone during emptying.
  • Do not exceed the published WLL or capacity for the size in use.
  • Reset the locking catches after each tip cycle to prevent unintended discharge.
  • Consider a debris cover where airborne dust or contents loss is a concern.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why use a Boat Skip rather than a circular muck skip?

The Boat Skip lifts and tips part loads, which is not possible with traditional manually-operated circular muck skips. The self-discharge dog-bone mechanism also keeps ground operatives out of the discharge zone during emptying.

Q: Do I need a slinger and banksman?

Yes. Both are required to check the lift and guide it to the discharge area, in line with standard lifting operation procedures.

Q: How safe is this skip?

The Boat Skip uses an automatic locking mechanism with a dog-bone release system, allowing the crane operator to empty the skip without ground operatives needing to be hands-on at the discharge point.

Q: Can I add a debris cover?

Yes. A debris cover is available on request to keep dust pollution to a minimum and prevent material loss during transport.

Q: What size should I choose?

Smaller 500 and 750 litre skips suit fit-out, refurbishment and finishing work. The 1000 litre size is a common general-purpose option. For groundworks, slab pours or larger muck-away volumes, choose the 1500 or 2000 litre sizes.
