More About This Product
The Invicta Mechanical Scissor Grab (Model ISG-5) is designed to lift, move and release numerous types of slabs, blocks and single or double layer kerb packs safely on a building site or yard. Fully mechanically operated via the forklift — without the driver leaving the safety of his seat — or via an overhead crane or HIAB. The ISG-5 features adjustable internal pack height via actuator wheels to accommodate different block sizes and up to 4 layers of blocks. Segmented interchangeable rubber pads ensure a secure grip. Manufactured in Leeds by Invicta Forks & Attachments.
Suitable Applications
The ISG-5 is essential for construction sites and builders merchants handling block packs, kerb packs and paving slabs. Common uses include delivering block packs to bricklayers at ground and upper levels, repositioning kerb packs for groundworkers, and loading/unloading lorries in builders merchants' yards.
Attachments are chosen by load shape: drums, bulk bags and banded packs each need a different one, and every attachment moves the load centre forward and derates the truck.
How to Use the Mechanical Scissor Grab
- Fit rubber pad arms and attach with lynch pins.
- Insert the lifting pin from the yoke or swivel hook through the lifting eye.
- With the grab in the locked open position, proceed towards the pack.
- Adjust the actuator wheels so the rubber pads contact within the bottom half of the bottom row.
- Lower the grab onto the pack until the actuator wheels rest on top and the grab fully closes.
- Lift the pack clear. Attach a restraint net if lifting overhead.
- Lower at the destination until the actuator wheels rest on the pack. Continue lowering until the grab locks open.
- Lift clear — the grab is now in the locked open position for the next lift.
Warning:
Never lift an unstable pack. Ensure all packs are banded together. Never stand between or under the grab. Always use a restraint net when lifting overhead.
Safety Information
- Never lift an unstable or unbanded pack.
- Never stand between or under the grab.
- Always use a restraint net when lifting overhead.
- Ensure the grab lifts from the bottom half of the bottom row.
- Keep hands clear of all moving parts.
- Never shock load the grab when loaded.
Inspection and Maintenance
Inspect weekly — focus on weld points, lifting eyes, rubber pad arms, locks, latches, nuts, bolts and rubber pad condition. Keep hinges, latches and hinge points greased. Certified for six months.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need the locating yoke?
The locating yoke (ILY-1) is optional but recommended — it reduces load swing and allows precise 90-degree positioning of block packs.
Q: How often do the rubber pads need replacing?
This depends on usage. Inspect the pads regularly and replace when they show signs of significant wear, cracking or loss of grip. The segmented design makes individual pad replacement quick and easy.
