Eichinger Circular Muck Tipping Skip

Model 1224 | Automatic Gravity Tipping | Safety Locking Fingers | Crane Lift | CE Marked | UKCA Compliant

The Eichinger Circular Muck Tipping Skip (Model 1224) is the original crane-lift general waste skip and remains the first choice for many contractors on UK construction sites. Built in Germany by Florian Eichinger GmbH, the 1224 features a compact circular design that is ideal for waste removal in confined spaces where larger skips simply cannot reach. The skip uses a fold-down hanger with safety locking fingers on either side of the lifting arm that secure the unit during crane transit. When the safety lock is released by hand at the discharge point, the skip empties automatically in response to the centre of gravity of the hanger โ€” no manual tipping is required. The durable heavy-duty steel construction meets the everyday demands of active construction sites, from demolition debris to general muck-away operations. The circular body is compact enough to pass through standard building openings and work within scaffolding, making it invaluable for upper-floor waste removal on multi-storey builds. The central lifting eye provides quick connection to standard crane hooks and chain slings. Available in 250-litre and 375-litre capacities.

CE Marked, UKCA Compliant & BG Safety Approved

This product carries CE marking in accordance with EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, and a UKCA certificate is also provided where required for the UK market. The skip is designed and manufactured to the occupational health and safety standards of the German Berufsgenossenschaften (BG โ€” Employers' Liability Insurance Associations). Manufactured under DIN ISO 9001:2015 quality management and independently tested by TรœV Nord for product and workplace safety. An EC Declaration of Conformity is supplied with every unit as standard.

Technical Specifications

Model Capacity (Litres) SWL (kg)

All models supplied with fold-down hanger, central lifting eye and safety locking fingers as standard.

Key Features

  • Automatic gravity tipping โ€” when the safety lock is released by hand, the skip empties automatically in response to the centre of gravity of the hanger, requiring no manual effort at the discharge point
  • Safety locking fingers โ€” fitted on both sides of the lifting arm to secure the skip during crane transit, preventing accidental tipping during lifting and movement
  • Fold-down hanger with central lifting eye โ€” provides quick, easy connection to standard crane hooks and chain slings for fast hook-up and release
  • Compact circular design โ€” the round body passes through standard building openings and fits within scaffolding structures where rectangular skips cannot reach
  • Heavy-duty steel construction โ€” durable, rugged design built to withstand daily use on demanding construction and demolition sites
  • Simple, proven mechanism โ€” minimal moving parts mean low maintenance requirements and reliable operation in all site conditions
  • Two capacity options โ€” available in 250L and 375L to match different site waste volumes and crane capacities
  • German-engineered construction โ€” manufactured by Florian Eichinger GmbH in Mรผhlhausen, Germany, producing construction equipment since 1904

Suitable Applications

The 1224 Circular Muck Tipping Skip is designed for any crane-operated waste removal application, particularly where space is limited and the compact circular profile is an advantage. It is commonly used for upper-floor waste removal on multi-storey residential and commercial builds, muck-away operations in confined or restricted-access areas, scaffolding-level debris collection and disposal, general construction waste removal via tower crane, and refurbishment and fit-out waste handling inside existing buildings. The automatic tipping action and simple design make it especially popular with hire companies, as it requires minimal training for site operatives and minimal maintenance between hire periods. The 1224 is used extensively across residential housebuilding, commercial construction, demolition, refurbishment and civil engineering projects throughout the UK.

How to Use the Circular Muck Tipping Skip

  1. Place the skip on a flat, level surface before filling. Do not exceed the rated Safe Working Load (SWL) shown on the type plate.
  2. Fill the skip evenly with waste material, ensuring the load does not exceed the height of the skip sides.
  3. Ensure the safety locking fingers on both sides of the lifting arm are engaged and the hanger is in the upright (locked) position.
  4. Attach the crane hook or chain sling to the central lifting eye. Ensure the hook is fully closed and secure.
  5. Raise the skip slowly off the ground and check for balance and load security before proceeding.
  6. Move the load to the intended discharge area, avoiding sudden or jolting movements.
  7. Lower the skip to a suitable height above the discharge point (e.g. above a waste container, skip lorry or designated dump area).
  8. Ensure the discharge area is clear of all personnel. Release the safety locking fingers by hand.
  9. The skip will tip automatically under gravity, discharging its contents completely.
  10. Once empty, the skip can be returned to the upright position and the safety locking fingers re-engaged for the return lift.

Warning: Never stand directly below the skip during discharge operations. Ensure the discharge area is clear of all personnel before releasing the safety locking fingers.

Certification and Compliance

This product is CE marked and supplied with a full EC Declaration of Conformity in accordance with the EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. A UKCA certificate is also provided where required for the Great Britain market. Following Brexit, the UK government has confirmed indefinite recognition of CE marking for lifting equipment in Great Britain, meaning businesses can use either UKCA or CE marked accessories provided the equipment is accompanied by a Declaration of Conformity (DoC). The skip is manufactured under a DIN ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management system, and independently tested by TรœV Nord for product and workplace safety (GS โ€” Tested Safety mark). It is built in accordance with the occupational health and safety regulations of the German Berufsgenossenschaften (BG). All lifting equipment used on UK construction sites must comply with the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER).

Safety Information

  • Never exceed the rated Safe Working Load (SWL) as shown on the type plate for each model.
  • Never stand directly below the skip during discharge operations. Ensure the discharge zone is clear of all personnel before releasing the safety locking fingers.
  • Always check that both safety locking fingers are fully engaged before lifting.
  • Do not release the safety locking fingers while the skip is in transit โ€” only release at the designated discharge point.
  • Ensure the load is evenly distributed and does not exceed the height of the skip sides.
  • Inspect the hanger, lifting eye, safety locking fingers and skip body for signs of damage, wear or deformation before each use.
  • A risk assessment must be carried out prior to moving or using this equipment.
  • Operation only by persons who are familiar with the equipment and have read the operating instructions.
  • Ensure the area of use is clear of overhead cables, power lines, or similar hazards that may affect safe use.
  • Required PPE: hard hat, safety boots, gloves, and hi-vis vest.
  • The type plate must remain present and legible at all times. If defects are found, the equipment must not be used until rectified.

Inspection and Maintenance

The circular muck tipping skip must be inspected before each use and undergo a thorough examination at least every 12 months by a competent person in accordance with LOLER 1998. All inspections must be documented and any defects rectified immediately before the equipment is returned to service. Regular cleaning after each use will extend the working life of the skip โ€” pay particular attention to the fold-down hanger mechanism, safety locking fingers, central lifting eye and the pivot point where the hanger meets the skip body. Check for signs of wear, corrosion or deformation at all load-bearing points. Ensure the safety locking fingers engage and release smoothly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the Eichinger 1224 Circular Muck Tipping Skip used for?

The 1224 is the original crane-lift waste skip, designed for collecting and discharging construction waste, rubble, soil and general site debris via tower crane or chain sling. Its compact circular design makes it ideal for confined spaces, building openings and scaffolding-level waste removal.

Q: What sizes are available?

The 1224 is available in two capacities: 250 litres (model 1224.3, SWL 500 kg) and 375 litres (model 1224.6, SWL 750 kg).

Q: How does the automatic tipping work?

The skip uses a fold-down hanger with a gravity-operated tipping mechanism. When the safety locking fingers are released by hand at the discharge point, the skip tips automatically under the centre of gravity of the hanger. No manual tipping effort is required โ€” the skip empties itself completely under its own weight.

Q: What are the safety locking fingers?

The safety locking fingers are metal catches fitted on both sides of the lifting arm that lock the skip in the upright position during crane transit. They prevent the skip from tipping accidentally during lifting and movement. The operator releases them by hand only when the skip is positioned at the discharge point.

Q: Can the skip fit through building openings and scaffolding?

Yes, the compact circular design is specifically intended for use in confined spaces. The round body passes through standard building openings and fits within scaffolding structures where larger rectangular skips cannot reach, making it invaluable for upper-floor waste removal.

Q: Is the 1224 CE marked and UKCA compliant?

Yes, the 1224 carries CE marking in accordance with EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and a UKCA certificate is provided where required for the UK market. It is manufactured under DIN ISO 9001:2015 quality management, independently tested by TรœV Nord, and built to the safety standards of the German Berufsgenossenschaften (BG). An EC Declaration of Conformity is supplied with every unit.

Q: How often does the skip need to be inspected?

The skip must be visually inspected before each use and undergo a thorough examination at least every 12 months by a competent person, in accordance with the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER). All inspection records must be documented and retained.

Q: Who manufactures the 1224?

The 1224 is manufactured by Florian Eichinger GmbH in Mรผhlhausen, Bavaria, Germany. Eichinger has been producing construction and lifting equipment since 1904 and is one of Europe's leading manufacturers of crane and forklift attachments. All products are manufactured in-house at their German facility โ€” they do not outsource fabrication.
