Lifting-gear specialists in Sheffield & London — phone & email

The Pfaff-Silberblau ZWW is the heavy-duty wall-mounted rack and pinion jack, scaling the ZWW-L design to capacities of 1,500 to 10,000 kg for lifting, lowering, pulling and pushing heavy loads from a permanent mounting position. Standard tensile load operation (compressive available on request), with rack lengths of 975 to 1,240 mm and lift of 565 to 800 mm, driven by a Sifeku safety crank (1.5-5 t) or Siku crank (10 t). Improved corrosion protection — zinc plating and special rack coating — is available for marine, outdoor and aggressive industrial environments.

Key Features

  • Heavy-duty wall-mounted design: Scales ZWW-L design to 10,000 kg, fixed-position industrial heavy lifting.
  • Sifeku safety crank (1.5-5 t): Spring-loaded retainer prevents accidental crank disengagement.
  • Siku crank (10 t): Standard 360° rotation for the largest ZWW 10000.
  • Robust steel construction: Precision-machined worm and spur gears, solid steel rack, hardened gearing parts.
  • Improved corrosion protection option: Zinc-plating or special coating for marine and aggressive environments.
  • Custom rack lengths and symmetrical toothing: Available on request for specific applications.

Pfaff-Silberblau is part of the Columbus McKinnon group, one of the world's largest manufacturers of motion technology and lifting equipment. This product is CE marked (EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC) and UKCA marked (UK Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008), manufactured to DIN 7355 (Steel jacks acc. to DIN), and is supplied with a Declaration of Conformity. LOLER 1998 thorough examinations are required every 12 months by a competent person after initial certification.

More About This Product

The Pfaff-Silberblau ZWW is the heavy-duty wall-mounted rack and pinion jack, scaling the ZWW-L design to capacities 1,500 to 10,000 kg. Used for lifting, lowering, pulling, and pushing heavy loads from a permanent mounting position. Standard tensile load operation; compressive (pushing) available on request. Rack lengths 975 to 1,240 mm with lift 565 to 800 mm. Sifeku safety crank (1.5-5 t) or Siku crank (10 t). Improved corrosion protection (zinc plating, special coating of rack) available for marine, outdoor, and aggressive industrial environments.

Suitable Applications

Heavy-duty wall-mounted jack for industrial fixed-position lifting. Applications: industrial maintenance and machinery installation, shipbuilding (deck plate alignment, hull section positioning), steel structure assembly, sluice gate auxiliary drives, rail heavy lifting, offshore installation, marine engineering.
A rack and pinion jack has no fluid to leak and no seals to fail, which suits infrequent use and cold or dirty conditions; for cylinder-based lifting a matched hydraulic pump is needed.

How to Use the Pfaff-Silberblau ZWW Wall-Mounted Rack & Pinion Jack (Heavy Duty)

  1. Select correct ZWW model: Match capacity (1500/3000/5000/10000 kg) to load.
  2. Mount the jack: Bolt to rigid wall or structure rated for WLL plus safety factor.
  3. Connect to load: Rack bore hole for yoke, eye bolt, or shackle. Consider dynamic forces.
  4. Fit crank: Sifeku (1.5-5 t) or Siku (10 t) per the model.
  5. Operate: Steady rotation. Hand effort 28 daN (1.5-5 t) or 40 daN (10 t).
  6. Hold position: Load brake + Sifeku spring retainer provides positive load holding.
  7. For S24 worm gear: Bolt-on accessory adds 24:1 reduction, self-locking, recommended for 5 t and 10 t.

Warning:
Wall mounting must support WLL plus dynamic effects, critical for 10 t. ZWW 10000 requires 40 daN, plan for two operators or specify Worm Gear Drive S24.

Safety Information

  • Always inspect the jack before each use (base plate, rack, gear housing, crank).
  • Never exceed the Working Load Limit stamped on the jack body.
  • Use only the manufacturer-approved crank, never with extension bars or mechanical drives.
  • Never use on soft ground, ice, or unstable surfaces.
  • Never side-load, angle-load, or use the jack to lift persons.
  • For sustained load support, place additional supports beside the jack before any work beneath the load, and see the hydraulic jack range where a powered lift is more practical.
  • LOLER 1998 thorough examination required every 12 months where used as lifting equipment.
  • Wall mounting structure must be rated for WLL plus safety factor, especially for 10 t.
  • ZWW 10000 requires 40 daN at WLL, plan for two operators or use S24 Worm Gear Drive.
  • For aggressive corrosion environments, specify improved corrosion protection option.

Inspection and Maintenance

Lubricate worm and spur gears every 6 months under heavy duty (annually under normal use). Use gear oil ISO VG 220. Inspect rack, gearbox, mounting bolts, and crank at each LOLER. Inspect Sifeku spring for fatigue. WOLFF Onsite provides LOLER inspection.

Optional Accessories

  • Pfaff Cranks: Sifeku (1.5-5 t) and Siku (10 t) replacement cranks.
  • Pfaff Worm Gear Drive S24: Bolt-on for 24:1 reduction with self-locking action. Recommended for ZWW 5 t and 10 t.
  • Improved corrosion protection: Zinc-plating or special coating of rack for marine and aggressive environments.
  • Symmetrical toothing and custom rack lengths: Available on request.
  • Compressive load configuration: Standard is tensile; compressive available on request.
  • Motor drive integration: Three-phase motor drives with manual emergency override available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: ZWW vs ZWW-L?

ZWW (heavy-duty) covers 1.5-10 t. ZWW-L (light-duty) covers 300-1,200 kg. Same wall-mounted design, scaled differently. Different cranks (Sifeku/Siku vs folding/standard) and different Worm Gear Drive (S24 vs S20).

Q: Why Sifeku on 1.5-5 t but Siku on 10 t?

Sifeku spring-loaded retainer suits the heavier 1.5-5 t loads where crank loss could be hazardous. The 10 t typically needs two operators or the S24 Worm Gear Drive, so the standard Siku is more practical.

Q: Can ZWW be coupled like ZWW-L?

ZWW-L supports tube coupling up to 1,000 kg total. ZWW heavy-duty is typically single-jack installation at much higher capacities, coupling not standard. Contact us for engineered multi-point solutions.

Q: ATEX-rated ZWW?

Standard ZWW catalogue does not include ATEX. ZWW-L 600 and 1,000 kg available in explosion-proof. For heavy-duty ATEX, contact us for specialist options.

Q: What's the hand effort difference between 1.5 t and 10 t ZWW?

All ZWW 1.5 to 5 t variants share 28 daN at WLL (the design target for single-operator manual operation). The 10 t ZWW requires 40 daN at WLL, slightly above comfortable single-operator effort, hence the typical recommendation to specify the Worm Gear Drive S24 for the 10 t variant.

Q: When should I specify the improved corrosion protection option?

Specify zinc-plated rack or special coating where the ZWW will be exposed to marine, offshore, chemical, or other aggressive environments. The standard finish is suitable for indoor industrial use. The improved corrosion protection adds modest cost but significantly extends service life in harsh conditions.

Q: How often does the ZWW need LOLER inspection?

LOLER 1998 (UK) requires thorough examination every 12 months by a competent person. For continuous heavy-duty use, more frequent inspection may be appropriate. WOLFF Onsite provides LOLER inspection for all Pfaff ZWW jacks.
