Conquip Excavator Drag Skip

Heavy-duty flat-based skip dragged across site by an excavator, also known as a stone-saver or shingle bin

The Conquip Excavator Drag Skip is a heavy-duty flat-based skip designed to be dragged across site by an excavator. Often referred to as a stone-saver or shingle bin, it is well-suited to transporting bulk materials such as shingle, sand, dry-mix concrete, backfill, stone and other aggregates. Reinforced base plate and drag bar are built to handle demanding site conditions, while four crane lift points allow the empty skip to be moved around larger sites.

Reduces material wastage

Reinforced drag bar and base plate | Four crane lift points | Available 4500 to 9500 litres

Technical Specifications

Product Code Capacity (litres) Length (mm) Width (mm) Height (mm) Weight (kg)

GS003AD-07500 7500 4450 2135 1735 2110
GS003AD-09500 9500 5500 2135 1735 2570

Key Features

  • Flat base for easy dragging and transportation across site.
  • Low sides for fast loading by excavator or wheeled loader.
  • Reinforced drag bar and thicker base plate for additional strength and longevity under repeated drag operations.
  • Four crane lift points for moving the empty skip around larger sites.
  • Three capacities from 4500 to 9500 litres to match excavator size and material volume.

Suitable Applications

The Excavator Drag Skip is ideal for groundworks, civils, infrastructure and housebuilding projects where loose aggregates need to be moved from a stockpile to the working area without losing material to ground spillage. Common uses include bedding concrete pipes on deep drainage applications, backfilling utility installations, and feeding aggregate to areas unreachable by dump trucks. Contractors typically save around 5 percent or three-quarters of a cubic metre of material per load by eliminating ground spillage.

How to Use

  1. Position the empty skip alongside the stockpile or at the loading point using the four crane lift points.
  2. Load the skip with the excavator bucket, loader or wheeled loader, keeping the load within the published capacity.
  3. Attach the excavator bucket or quick-hitch to the drag bar at the front of the skip.
  4. Drag the skip to the discharge area, keeping the route clear of ground personnel.
  5. Tip or excavate material out of the skip at the discharge point.
  6. Drag the empty skip back to the loading area for the next cycle, or use the crane lift points to reposition.

Warning: Confirm the drag operation is within the excavator's rated capability. Keep ground personnel clear of the drag route. The skip is heavy when loaded — at 9500 litres of dense aggregate the gross weight is significant.

Safety Information

  • Inspect the drag bar, base plate, lift points and shackles before each shift.
  • The excavator operator must be trained and competent for drag operations.
  • Keep ground personnel clear of the drag route at all times.
  • Do not exceed the published capacity for the size in use.
  • Use the crane lift points only for moving the empty skip — not for loaded lifts.
  • Confirm the lifting plan if the empty skip needs to be craned to a different level.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much material can I move?

Three sizes are available — 4500, 7500 and 9500 litres — letting you match skip size to excavator capability and material volume.

Q: How much material wastage does it save?

Contractors typically report saving around 5 percent or three-quarters of a cubic metre of loose material per load by eliminating ground spillage that occurs with conventional dump truck or bucket transport.

Q: Can I use this with a wheeled loader instead of an excavator?

The drag bar is designed to be engaged by an excavator bucket or quick-hitch. Wheeled loaders can load the skip but are not the typical drag-tow vehicle.

Q: How do I move the empty skip around site?

Four crane lift points let you crane the empty skip to a new location. For loaded movement, drag with the excavator only.

Q: What sites is this best suited to?

Groundworks, civils, drainage, utilities, road construction, housebuilding and any project where keeping aggregate clean and reducing wastage matters. Particularly useful where dump truck access is restricted or impossible.
