Conquip Autolock Tipping Skip

Forklift & Telehandler Mounted | Gas-Assisted Autolock | 500L & 1200L | UK Manufactured

The Conquip Autolock Tipping Skip is a forklift and telehandler attachment built for the fast, safe handling of general waste on construction sites. A gas-assisted ram and automatic locking mechanism mean the skip secures itself to the forks and discharges using only the carrier's tilt function — no levers, cables, or chains, and no need for the operator to leave the cab. The patented design delivers 100% fork restraint during tipping, eliminating the common risk of skips coming loose mid-empty. Manufactured in the UK from 3mm steel panels (6mm available on request) and widely used across UK housebuilding sites and major plant hire fleets.

UK Manufactured | Tested to UK & EU Standards

The full Autolock range is built and tested in the UK to comply with current UK and EU regulations. The autolock mechanism removes the need for safety restraint chains around the carriage, cutting downtime and reducing operator handling. Available in two capacities and five configurations including standard, mesh-sided, cranelift, and castor-equipped variants. Custom colour finishes are available for waste segregation aligned with Institute of Civil Engineers standards.

Key Features

  • Gas-assisted autolock mechanism — automatically locks the skip to the forks when engaged, eliminating the need for safety restraint chains
  • 100% fork restraint during tipping — the skip cannot detach during emptying, removing a common site safety risk
  • Tilt-function discharge — empties using the telehandler's existing tilt control with no levers or cables required
  • 3mm panel construction — robust UK-manufactured build, with 6mm panels available for heavy-duty applications
  • Raked-back design — protects the skip from impact damage at the back of the forks, extending service life
  • Standard fork pocket width — fits most forklifts and telehandlers without fork adjustment
  • Configurable — choose castors for site mobility, mesh sides for windy conditions, or lifting eyes for cranelift use

Suitable Applications

The Autolock Tipping Skip is the most widely-used skip of its type on UK construction sites, particularly across housebuilding, refurbishment and fit-out projects. Common uses include moving general site waste to larger collection skips, transporting building materials around the plot, and discharging waste from chutes. The 500L compact version fits through standard door frames, making it suitable for interior fit-out work. The 1200L variant with mesh sides extends the height for chute discharge and prevents waste blowing out in high winds.

How to Use the Autolock Tipping Skip

  1. Position the forks at the correct width to enter the skip's fork pockets.
  2. Drive the forks fully home into the pockets — the gas-assisted ram engages the autolock automatically.
  3. Confirm the skip is secured before lifting. No safety chains are required.
  4. Transport the skip to the discharge point.
  5. Position over the receiving skip or chute and use the carrier's standard tilt function to empty.
  6. Return to upright position; the skip remains locked throughout transit and tipping.
  7. To release, lower the skip to the ground and reverse the forks out — the autolock disengages.

Warning: Always confirm the autolock is engaged before lifting. Do not exceed the WLL stated for the model in use. Operate within the carrier's rated capacity at the load centre.

Safety Information

  • Operators must be trained and familiar with the attachment before use.
  • Confirm autolock engagement before every lift.
  • Never overload — refer to the spec table for WLL by model.
  • Do not shock load. Lower the skip gently into the receiving container.
  • Keep the discharge area clear of personnel during tipping.
  • Inspect weekly per LOLER requirements; certified examination every 6 months by a competent person.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why should I use this skip over a standard tipping skip?

The autolock design provides 100% fork restraint during emptying — the skip physically cannot detach mid-tip. This is the safety-critical difference and the reason it has become the default choice on UK housebuilding sites. Custom colours are also available for waste segregation.

Q: We currently have to fence around our skip when discharging via chute. Is there an alternative?

Yes — the 1200L variant with mesh sides extends the skip height, ensuring chute discharge enters the skip cleanly and waste cannot blow out in high winds.

Q: Can these be serviced for compliance?

Yes. We can arrange on-site inspection and maintenance through our after-sales service to keep skips compliant with LOLER requirements.
